Nova 7sp aluminum folding bicycle

New Nova lightweight aluminum folding bicycle brings our innovation to a lower entry level price point. The bike is superlight at 24lbs with aluminum frame and components. Includes a Shimano 7sp drivetrain, which is great for the hills and flats. Folding pedals, and height adjustable stems are nice additions to the value leader. The frame hinge is licensed from Dahon, and the stem uses a Brompton screw style. Front derailleur mount is welded onto the frame, hence this can quickly turn into a 21sp bike.

Many ask why our bikes are so cost effective. The answer is simple, we design, import, distribute, and retail our own bikes. This efficiency saves our customers 50-70% over comparable quality bikes.

The Downtube 8H was designed with safety and ease of use in mind. Features added for your comfort and convenience include:

- internal 8sp Sturmey Archer maintenance free hub

- Sub 10 second folding time.

- Mini barends. (With many folding bikes it is difficult to steer with a long stem, barends solve this problem, but make the bike difficult to fold . not with our mini barends - easy to turn and easy to fold!)

- Folding left and right pedals for compactness.

- Plastic chainring cover to make keep chain from getting dirt and grime in your car or storage area. Also keeps the chain from falling off.

- Ding-a-ling bell to alert pedestrians and cars (packed in the bag)

- Extra wide handlebars to allow the rider to stretch out and feel comfortable.

- Quality comfort grips.

- Adjustable height stem allows bike to be used by kids and adults.

- Front and rear Quick Release skewers to quickly remove either wheel.

- Gel saddle

- Water bottle cage braze-ons (only bike in its class with this feature) which can also hold a pump

High quality components and design was a premium goal with this bike. Some of the quality parts include:

- 6061 Aluminum Frame

- Front suspension transarch fork by Zoom with disc tabs

- 8 speed Sturmey Archer internal 8sp gripshift.

- 46T front chainring.

- Oversized 1 1/8in headset, for increased durability and performance.

- Double wall machined sidewall 20in alloy rims.

A naked bike and lots of links

I hope that you have been enjoying the holidays. I have been taking time off work to spend with my family, so the blog hasn’t been getting much attention in the last week or so. That doesn’t mean that the links haven’t been coming in though, so today I want to quickly pass along several links that have come to my attention recently.
Murray is a reader who sends me links pretty often. He forwarded these pictures of a nice looking custom Naked bike with some interesting details.
A while back, Murray also sent me a link to this French electric hybrid bike, the Matra MS1.
Several readers let me know about Africa Bicycle Design’s new blog. I will be following along as the design team chronicals the development of new bikes for a Cycling out of Poverty project in Kisumu, Kenya.
Before Christmas, BikeHugger was asking readers to submit questions for Trek’s art director, Mike Pfaltzgraff. The deadline has been extended so hurry up if you have questions about the graphics that go onto Trek bikes.
Gizmodo posted a unicycle built for two. It certainly doesn’t look easy to use, especially with riders of different weights.
Good.is posted an article titled, “What the bicycle can teach us about the design challenges of the next century”.
Don’t fall for this claim from Ritte Racing that the UCI banned their bike for “being too good looking”. It is pretty funny though…good marketing for the bikes too. Via Cyclelicious.
Airnimal just released a new fixed gear folding bike that I think looks pretty nice. I would love to have something like this for travel.
Seth pointed out this student designed wooden recumbent trike that is worth checking out.
Wend Magazine tells us that the “The Dweeb-Free Bicycle Helmet is Finally Here”. I am not so sure about that, but take a look and decide for yourself.
Inhabitat posted about a “Recycled Christmas Tree Made of Bike Wheels”. It reminded me of our Bikeville parade float from last year, which featured different diameter wheels to make up the tree.
OK, I will close this post with that last Christmas themed link. I need to get back to the framesets that I am building up with my 11 year old. I was a little nervous yesterday watching him thread a bottom bracket into a new aluminum frame, but we are having a lot of fun assembling the bikes together.

DK City's folding electric bicycle by Robrady

The world is crying out for some decent folding electric bike designs and predictably, given its two-wheeled heritage, Robrady Design has delivered one of the best we’ve seen so far. Secondary transport solutions that are light and electric and can fold into small spaces are naturally an important part of the transportation equation of the future – Robrady designed the db0 for Taiwanese company DK City and it’ll be on the market within two months.

While ROBRADY is well known for its design prowess in the electric scooter and super bike world (notably its electric superbike and its association with the now defunct Vectrix electric scooter company), this is the company’s first foray into the electric bicycle market.

ROBRADY CEO and Design Director Robert Brady said his team “took a white page look” at the opportunity and set out to design a series of three bikes that would be instantly recognized as the next generation in folding bikes.

“The three new db0 bikes embody our mission to design a series of clean, bold, and innovatively simple folding bikes. Our design work promotes the folding mechanism as an integrated piece of the design- a ‘focal point’ that adds visual value to the bike design unlike it has ever been done before. We don’t hide the fact that these bikes fold- we have made it a distinguished characteristic of the series.”

Several features of the bike are currently being patented. DK City, which will be the exclusive manufacturers of the bicycle series, is also taking a fresh approach to the build, incorporating unique manufacturing processes that it claims will deliver a bicycle of superior craftsmanship. The partnership is planning several future projects beyond this series of bicycles.

Sadly, that's all we have at this stage - no pricing, no specifications, no top speeds or range. Looks good though, and stay tuned for when they release detailed information.

Mercedes-Benz shows a (very clever) folding bicycle

Mercedes-Benz pushbikes are always special but the latest collection, released this week, includes a very clever Foldingbike with two different folded positions. Fully folded, it’s a very small package, while the “shuttle” position allows the bike to be pushed and steered - ideal for easy carriage using public transport.

When completely folded down, the Mercedes-Benz Foldingbike requires little space. In this position, it only measures 80x80x35 cm, enabling it to be packed away in the supplied high-quality carrying bag. Accordingly, the bike can be easily stowed in a car trunk, camper van, office or yacht. Essentially, it's as good as a constant companion – it can go wherever you go.

The patented folding mechanism is particularly easy to operate - folding and unfolding the bike takes only a few seconds, and no tools are required.

The aluminum frame has a suspension travel of 40 mm at both front and rear, and this is adjustable for individual riding comfort. A Shimano 8-speed derailleur gear makes for relaxed cycling, while disc brakes ensure a high level of safety. A side stand, protective metal cover and a variable luggage rack make this extraordinary bike ideal for day-to-day use. The new Mercedes-Benz Foldingbike comes in silver or white, and costs EUR1700.

Dahon Curve 3D folding Bike

From the city streets to the back-country trails, the Dahon Curve D3 Folding Bike can go anywhere. Perfect for tight squeezes, the Curve D3 is Dahon’s most-popular folding bike – and for good reason. Just 16 inches in length, sporting cool styling and a good ride, the Curve G3 has a patented new V-Clamp frame hinge that is strong, durable and easy to operate. It also comes equipped with Schwalbe Big Apple tires that are fast rolling and super comfy, and it also comes with luggage mounts. Retails for around $520. Dahon.

Folding Bikes Are Amazing Road Elements

Carry it with ease and store it tight – this is how you can handle folding bikes. During the mode of construction, this particular bike variety has been supplied with several joints and hinges that can be locked when needed. You can fold the bike as you like, which makes it easy to be carried on multiple private and public transports. This is the best way to illustrate and depict the features and facilities of numerous folding bike types.

Shake hands with folding bicycles and feel confident on road

A folding bike is always better than a traditional one. You can always think of carrying a folding bike with you while you are on the move for long distance tours. Just think how fantastic it would be when carrying or storing a bicycle is not at all a problem in life.

Folding does not only mean pushing in between the joints to make the bicycle look smaller and manageable. You can even undo the parts of the bicycle and then pack them together for the ease of carrying carefully wherever you may choose to go. According to the present need of time most people would definitely love to go around in lightweight folding bike varieties rather than pushing through the ways in standard bicycles, driving cars and motor bikes. This is only because they can be neatly folded and carried according to your convenience.

If your habitat is situated at a particular corner of a skyscraper then it would be best for you to have a folding bike. Normal bikes with no chances of folding or packing need to be kept or stored at one corner of your garage area. There is no need for you to worry if you live in a building with no lifts and elevators as carrying a folding bicycle down the stairs is not at all a problem.

Why does a folding bike feel so light?

The magic lies in its lightweight aluminum body. Folding bicycles come in different varieties. Folding bicycles are not an inexpensive lot. All you need to do is a little bargaining before you can aptly point your finger at one of the most exclusive folding bike models. The Internet is there to inform you about the contemporary hottest folding bike types offered at affordable price ranges. Just do not go for straight purchasing. A wise choice needs some comparisons and evaluations before the final work done.

One problem with folding bicycles is that they have small diameter wheels, which cause problems on uneven surfaces. The bikes even have shock absorbers promoting a better and smother ride down the lane. They also come with quite a number of adjustments, which surely help you to settle down well on the bike.

How to be folded is indeed significant, but what puts folding bicycles on the top of the list is the fact that they can be easily stored and transported.
